This position is located in transportation service at the VA Medical Center in Ukiah, CA. Operates a motor coaches weighing over 32,000 lbs., while transporting patients and supplies. Operates vehicles or equipment with air brakes and standard systems. Operates vehicles on various types of roads (highway, city and rural). Operates vehicles in various weather conditions. Operates and provide preventive maintenance for patient transport vehicles. Completes trip tickets and preventive maintenance records. Ensures passengers, materials and equipment are properly located and secured. Understands all Federal and California vehicle codes and regulations. Exercises defensive driving techniques. Performs other duties assigned as related to the position. Work Schedule:

The employee exerts moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, and in climbing on the trailer to load and unload or tie down cargo. Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather conditions. Employee subject to exposure to the danger of accidents. Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
